Required Application Documents
Along with your online application through CFNC.org, the following documents are required to complete the application process. These documents should only be submitted after you have completed your CFNC application and should be uploaded online at least two weeks in advance of your audition date.
High school and college transcripts should be submitted electronically to the UNCSA Office of
Admissions whenever possible. If your high school does not have the capability to
send your transcript electronically, please request that your official transcript
be mailed to the Office of Admissions. If you have credits from a college, please also supply your college transcript.
Transcripts should be official sealed, signed or notarized copies of all secondary school academic records, that include a list of courses in which the applicant is enrolled at the time of application.
Ninth and Tenth Grade Applicants
UNCSA requires academic records for the past three (3) years. Current ninth and tenth grade students applying for admission should have their school mail official report cards in addition to any transcripts for three years of complete records.
Home Schooled Applicants
Home schooled applicants should provide documentation that the home school is recognized by the state of residency and provide course titles and course descriptions for each year of home schooling, tests used and evaluation of knowledge that the applicant has completed the equivalent of the UNC System minimum course requirements. If the applicant has attended a traditional high school, submit an official transcript from that school.
Official transcripts in your native language must be submitted with a literal English translation by a certifying agency. If you cannot have an original academic record sent from the institution, please contact a certifying agency to verify what they would accept as a transcript from your institution. Faxed or scanned copies are not acceptable.
AP or IB Scores
Any AP or IB test scores should be reported to the UNCSA Office of Admissions.
ACT or SAT Scores
ACT and SAT scores are not required for students applying to the high school program. However, if you have already taken these tests, you are welcome to have official scores reported to UNCSA.
International applications are required to submit official TOEFL Junior scores, with a miniumum score requirement of 745.
Letters of Recommendation
Two letters of recommendation are required of all applicants:
- One letter from an arts instructor
- One letter from an academic instructor
If you are not currently enrolled in school, a letter may come from an employer, mentor, instructor, director, etc
Counselors and recommenders should upload completed recommendation letters online using the Counselor/Recommender Upload.
Recommenders also have the option of filling out and uploading one of our two recommendation forms:
Application Agreement Statement
All high school applicants should print, complete and upload a copy of the Application Agreement Statement.
A two page statement expressing your interests, goals and other information providing insight into your work.
- Include your full name on the document.
- This document may be used if you are recommended for scholarship consideration.
Need help? See "How to Write an Artistic Statement" and read examples from our students.

Provide two repertoire lists:
- A list of every piece and its composer that you have studied or performed. If needed, this list can be limited to only include pieces studied or performed within the past 5 years.
- A list of pieces and their composers that you have prepared for your audition. (Read more about what audition repertoire you should prepare.)
Repertoire lists are not required for Composition applicants.
