you/we by Lawrence Dillon
A genre-bending exploration of American folk traditions, contemporary classical music and artistic collaboration.
"you/we," blends American folk influences with contemporary classical composition in a new recording by UNCSA composer Lawrence Dillon.
Featuring an ensemble of UNCSA faculty artists and alumni, the work pairs familiar folk harmonies and melodies with unexpected instrumental colors, bringing together mandolin and guitar with bassoon, marimba, double bass and classically trained voices. The result is what Dillon describes as "a hybrid, a meeting point for dissimilar elements."
Produced and engineered by Bill Stevens and mastered by Grammy Award-nominated Dave McNair, the recording showcases the creativity and collaboration that define UNCSA while reflecting the School of Music's ongoing exploration of American musical traditions. "you/we" is available now on major streaming platforms.
Recorded in collaboration with UNCSA Media and supported by the Thomas S. Kenan Institute for the Arts, “you/we” continues the label’s mission to highlight groundbreaking artistry from UNCSA faculty, alumni and partners.
