Weather Notice | Feb. 4 2026

Weather Notice: UNCSA remains in Condition 1 through 8 a.m. Sat., Feb. 7 

Due to the forecast for a wintry mix tonight, UNCSA will remain in Condition 1 – Reduced Operations until 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, when normal operations will resume. 

Students 

During Condition 1, classes will be held, with the following guidelines: 

  • Individual faculty may use discretion to adjust their own class schedules and arrange any make-up work. If you have questions about activities scheduled for your arts school or the academic programs, please contact your dean. 
  • Students who miss scheduled classes or activities due to the weather or travel issues will be allowed to make up any work missed. 

Employees 

During Condition 1, non-mandatory employees can decide whether to arrive late or not report to the office in person, with timely notice to their supervisor. They must use personal leave if not working. Alternately, and only with supervisor approval, these employees may work from home or an alternate site. Employees reporting to the office are encouraged to use the entrance to their office/department that has been cleared. 

Campus Access   

During Condition 1, normally assigned access remains active for all One Card holders. All doors will be accessible with your One Card credential including shared spaces such as the Library and Hanes Student Commons, and practice rooms, which will remain open as usual.  

Please note that some parking lots are not in full use due to snow obstruction. Please plan for extra time for parking as your usual area may not be accessible. Please be patient as Facilities personnel are working diligently to clear paths on campus along prioritized routes in a systematic manner. Please also use caution in areas surrounding the campus as some city streets have not been entirely cleared and may be hazardous.

Weather Notice | Feb. 2 2026

Weather Notice: UNCSA moves to Condition 1 at noon Tuesday, Feb. 3

UNCSA will move to Condition 1 – Reduced Operations at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 3, until further notice.  

Students 

High School students will have asynchronous assignments on Tuesday to allow those off campus time to travel back to campus Tuesday.  

On Tuesday, undergraduate and graduate classes scheduled from noon onward will be held, with the following guidelines: 

  • Individual faculty may use discretion to adjust their own class schedules and arrange any make-up work. If you have questions about activities scheduled for your arts school, please contact your dean.

Weather Notice: UNCSA remains in Condition 2 through Monday, Feb. 2 

UNCSA will remain in Condition 2 – Suspended Operations through Monday, Feb. 2, due to the winter storm spreading deep snow across our area. 

During Condition 2, all classes, activities and performances on or off campus are canceled. One Card access remains disabled for nonresidential students as well as all nonmandatory faculty and staff (you will not be able to enter any campus buildings).  Residential students who are on campus will have access only to residential spaces and Hanes Student Commons. 

Nonresidential students and nonmandatory faculty and staff should not enter campus for any reason to allow our facilities workers to clear roads and walkways efficiently. If you have questions about activities scheduled for your arts school or department, please contact your dean or supervisor.

Weather Notice: UNCSA will return to Condition 2 at 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30

UNCSA will return to Condition 2 – Suspended Operations at 10 p.m. tonight, Friday, Jan. 30, in preparation for forecasted snow this coming weekend, and will remain in Condition 2 until further notice.  

Residential students who are still on campus will have access only to residential spaces and Hanes Student Commons after 10 p.m. tonight. UNCSA Police & Public Safety will be walking the campus to ensure that all nonresidential students, as well as staff and faculty, are safely off campus by this time. 

During Condition 2, all classes, activities and performances on or off campus are canceled until further notice. One Card access will be disabled for nonresidential students as well as all nonmandatory faculty and staff (you will not be able to enter any campus buildings). Weather Notice | Jan. 29, 2026

Weather Notice: Condition 1 Reduced Operations 1/30/2026

UNCSA will temporarily move to Condition 1 – Reduced Operations at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30. The University will return to Condition 2 – Suspended Operations at 10 p.m. Friday in preparation for forecasted snow this coming weekend, and will remain in Condition 2 until further notice.  

UNCSA is moving to Condition 1 to allow students, faculty and staff the opportunity to access campus and campus buildings as needed and to secure additional supplies for the weekend. Classes are not being held on Friday due to the previously scheduled Collaborative Day. Friday may be used as an optional make-up day for rehearsals; however, no one is required to attend rehearsals scheduled by the arts schools. Non-mandatory employees have the option not to report to work and, with supervisor approval, work from home or an alternate site.    

High School students who are signed out are not permitted to return to campus.  Any High School students currently on campus who wish to leave should do so during this Condition 1, before the next storm arrives. 

While the campus has been mostly cleared of ice and snow, there are remaining icy spots, and the surrounding neighborhood streets remain icy and hazardous. Please use caution if you choose to return to campus during Condition 1.

Weather Notice: Condition 2 Suspended Operations through Thurs., Jan. 29

Due to the effects of last weekend’s winter weather, UNCSA will remain in Condition 2 – Suspended Operations through Thursday, Jan. 29. All classes, activities and performances on or off campus are canceled through Thursday.  

Decisions about Friday, Jan. 30, will be communicated to campus by 6 p.m. on Thursday, based on campus conditions and area road conditions. A reminder that Friday, Jan. 30, is a Collaborative Day with no arts or academic obligations for students.  

During Condition 2 One Card access remains disabled for nonresidential students as well as all nonmandatory faculty and staff (you will not be able to enter any campus buildings). Nonresidential students and nonmandatory faculty and staff should not enter campus for any reason to allow our facilities workers to continue to clear roads and walkways efficiently. Weather Notice: Condition 2 Suspended Operations through Wed., Jan 28

Due to the effects of winter weather, UNCSA will remain in Condition 2 – Suspended Operations through Wednesday, Jan 28. All classes, activities and performances on or off campus are canceled through Wednesday. 

Decisions about Thursday, Jan. 29 will be communicated to campus by 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan 27 based on campus conditions and area road conditions. 

During Condition 2 One Card access remains disabled for nonresidential students as well as all nonmandatory faculty and staff (you will not be able to enter any campus buildings). Nonresidential students and nonmandatory faculty and staff should not enter campus for any reason to allow our facilities workers to clear roads and walkways efficiently. Weather Notice | Jan. 22, 2026

Weather Notice: Condition 2 Suspended Operations 1/24/2026

UNCSA officials are closely monitoring the approach of the winter storm that is currently expected to reach us Saturday afternoon, Jan. 24, and is forecasted to bring a significant amount of snow followed by sleet and/or freezing rain. Travel is expected to be hazardous. 

The university will move to Condition 2 – Suspended Operations at noon on Saturday, Jan. 24, until further notice. During this time, all activities on campus are canceled. All scheduled performances on or off campus are also canceled. One Card access will be disabled for nonresidential students as well as all nonmandatory faculty and staff (you will not be able to enter any campus buildings). Please plan accordingly and gather all necessary belongings prior to noon on Saturday. If you have questions about activities scheduled for your arts school or department, please contact your dean or supervisor.

UNCSA will end Condition 1 (Reduced Operations) at 6 p.m. today, Tuesday, Dec. 9, and will resume normal operations. If employees have any questions, please contact your supervisor.

Weather Notice | Dec. 8, 2025

Due to the potential for hazardous travel conditions, the University will move to Condition 1 (Reduced Operations) at 6 p.m. today, Monday, Dec. 8, until further notice. During Condition 1, the University is open, but some operations may be reduced. Non-mandatory employees have the option not to report to work and, with supervisor approval, work from home or an alternate site. All doors will be accessible with One Card credential including shared spaces such as the Library and Hanes Student Commons, as well as practice rooms, which will remain open as usual. UNCSA urges students and employees to use their best judgment when deciding whether to travel based on local conditions; employees should notify supervisors if they are unable to do so. UNCSA will give the campus an update on conditions no later than 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9. UNCSA’s Adverse Weather Regulation provides guidance for all employees and students when inclement weather conditions exist.  

Weather Notice | Dec. 4, 2025

Due to the potential for wintry mix and hazardous travel conditions, the University will move to Condition 1 (Reduced Operations) at 3 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 5 through 10 a.m. that morning, when normal operations will resume. During Condition 1, the University is open, but some operations may be reduced. Classes will be held. Individual faculty may adjust class schedules and allow for work to be made up. Non-mandatory employees have the option to not report to work and, with supervisor approval, work from home or an alternate site. Doors will be accessible only with One Card credential.

For those involved in “The Nutcracker,” buses will depart UNCSA for the Tanger Center as originally scheduled.

Weather Notice | Feb. 19, 2025

Classes and activities will resume and offices will open at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, when the university will return to normal operations.  

The university will remain in Condition 2, Suspended Operations, until 10 a.m. One Card access will remain disabled for all nonresidential students and nonmandatory employees until 10 a.m. 

You are advised to use your best judgment and err on the side of caution when making any travel decisions. If your local road conditions are unsafe, please contact your supervisor or dean if you are unable to report to campus when the university reopens. For more information, see the Adverse Weather Policy

Due to a delay in the rehearsal process, the Thursday night performances of “Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune” and Winter Dance are canceled and will resume on Friday, Feb. 21. Additional performances for “Frankie and Johnny” and Winter Dance been added on Sunday at 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively. Ticket holders will be notified about exchanges tomorrow. 

Weather Notice | Feb. 18, 2025

Due to anticipated snow and sleet and out of an abundance of caution, all classes, rehearsals and activities are canceled on Wednesday, Feb. 19. UNCSA will move to Condition 2, Suspended Operations, at midnight tonight.

One Card access will be disabled for all nonresidential students and nonmandatory employees; however, residential students will retain access to Artist Village and Hanes Student Commons. Once UNCSA enters Condition 2, high school residential students will only be permitted to leave campus with parents and/or guardians. On Wednesday, The Hector Manual Lopez, Jr. Dining Hall will be open for brunch from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and dinner from 4-7 p.m. The Food Hive at Artist Village will be open normal hours. All other Dining locations will be closed. Students with scheduled appointments in the Counseling Center will be offered telehealth appointments instead of in-person on Wednesday.

With supervisor approval, employees may either telework or work remotely from an alternate location. Alternatively, employees may use adverse weather leave and be permitted to make up the absence within 90 days.

UNCSA officials will send another update on Wednesday evening regarding the status of classes, performances, offices and activities for Thursday. Updates will be communicated via UNCSA Alert, on the UNCSA home page, on the school’s Facebook and X (Twitter) platforms, and via local media outlets.

Any time adverse weather poses a significant safety concern for the campus community, UNCSA officials may decide to reduce or suspend campus operations, delay the start of classes and/or the opening of offices, or postpone or cancel performances and events. Weather Notice | Jan. 13, 2025 at 2:20 p.m.

UNCSA will resume normal operations Jan. 14

UNCSA will move to normal operations at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 14. All classes and activities will resume as scheduled. Please be aware that some slick conditions may remain surrounding the campus as temperatures will go below freezing tonight. You are advised to use your best judgment and err on the side of caution when making any travel decisions.

Campus Events and Services Update | Jan. 12, 2025

Hours of Operation on Sunday, Jan. 12

Hector Lopez Dining Hall: 

  • Brunch: Resumes at noon until 2 p.m.(Potentially Limited Stations due to Delayed Staff Arrivals) 
  • Lite Dinner: 2-4 p.m.
  • Dinner: 4-7 p.m.
  • Pickle Jar: Late Night: 7-11 p.m.
  • Studio Brew Cafe: Noon until Midnight
  • Artist Village Hives: Opens at Noon and will remain open 24 hours. 
  • Hanes Hive: Opens at Noon until 10 p.m.

Drama Auditions: Canceled for Sunday, Jan. 12.

Fletcher Opera Auditions: These auditions will still occur as scheduled on Sunday, Jan. 12.

Bassoon Conference: The Bassoon Conference will be moved offsite today, Saturday, Jan. 11. Vendors should contact the University Police Department at 336-770-3321 for reference items on campus. Sunday’s Bassoon Competition will take place as planned. Due to icy conditions, Gray Building studios will be unavailable. Transportation will be limited on Sunday afternoon due to airport shuttles for returning students. PTI Airport Shuttles: Shuttles will leave from PTI Airport at the following times for each day listed.

  • Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025: 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Weather Notice | Jan. 11, 2025

UNCSA to remain in Condition 2

Following Winter Storm Cora, the university will remain in Condition 2, Suspended Operations, until noon tomorrow, Sunday, Jan. 12. During this time, all activities on campus are canceled. One Card access will be disabled for all nonmandatory faculty and staff and nonresidential students and there will be no access to any buildings on campus.

The university will move to Condition 1, Reduced Operations at noon on Sunday, Jan. 12 through 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14. While the university will be open to support student move-in on Sunday, we encourage all other activities on campus to be canceled to allow Facilities to focus on residential areas. Access to buildings will stay in a controlled state, and doors that are normally unlocked will be card-accessible only. As some services or activities may be limited, please check back for more information. Weather Notice | Jan. 9, 2025

Condition 2, Suspended Operations, at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10

UNCSA officials are closely monitoring the approach of Winter Storm Cora. Our area is currently under a Winter Storm Watch. Weather forecasts show Winston-Salem could receive 1-3 inches of snow and ice with precipitation beginning Friday afternoon, Jan. 10.

To allow faculty and staff the time to travel safely, the university will move to Condition 2 – Suspended Operations at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10. During this time, all activities on campus are canceled. One Card access will be disabled for all nonmandatory faculty and staff and nonresidential students and there will be no access to any buildings on campus. Please plan accordingly. At this time, the spring semester move-in is still scheduled for noon on Sunday, Jan. 12.
