Summer Programs

UNCSA Summer Dance Intensives

UNCSA Summer Dance offers three unique programs:

• Classical Ballet Intensive: Four-week programs for students ages 12*–18. June 21 through July 17**
• Contemporary Dance Intensive: Four-week programs for students ages 12*–18. June 21 through July 17**
• DANCE | CONNECTION NOW: A two-week intensive for students ages 15–25. June 28 through July 10**

* Students must be at least 14 years old by June 18, 2026 or a rising 9th grader to qualify for on-campus housing.

** Instruction concludes on the final Friday of each Intensive. Students must check out of their Residence Hall no later than 11 a.m. the following Saturday morning. 

UNCSA Summer Dance Intensives are about more than training, they are about exploring and transforming your skills. It’s a time to take risks, to explore your voice as an artist, and experience the same rigor, curiosity, and artistic excellence that shape our year-round dance program.

Each intensive is crafted to meet the diverse needs of passionate dance artists, whether they're honing their technique or launching professional careers. These programs equip emerging talents with the knowledge, experience, and skills necessary to excel in a career in the arts.

With a strong focus on individualized growth, each intensive pushes dancers to elevate their artistry and explore new creative horizons. Participants are both challenged and inspired to expand their potential. The intimate faculty-to-student ratio ensures personalized mentorship, guiding each dancer to reach new levels of creativity, skill, and success.

At UNCSA Summer Dance, your hard work on stage doesn’t end when the curtain comes down. Every student has the opportunity to receive professional-quality video and photo recordings of their performance, a valuable tool for auditions, applications, and building a professional portfolio.

Personalized Recordings – Each dancer receives footage of the specific works they perform in (not the entire showcase), spotlighting their artistry.

Audition and Portfolio Ready – Use your performance video for college, conservatory, or professional auditions and applications.  These may not be otherwise shared or distributed, protecting the intellectual property rights of the choreographers, fellow artists, and institution.

Social Media Highlights – Share short clips (up to 15 seconds) to showcase your growth and celebrate your artistry while respecting choreographers’ rights.

Professional Quality Media at Student Rates – Media packages are offered at affordable prices, with select downloads included as part of tuition. This unique offering means you leave the summer not only with training and an incredible artistic experience, but also with tangible, career-building materials to take the next step on your dance journey. 

This year, we welcome new Summer Dance Intensive Program Director Ilya Kozadayev. Kozadayev serves as an Associate Professor of Ballet at the UNCSA School of Dance and is the Artistic Director and Choreographer of UNCSA's annual production of "The Nutcracker."
